Conclusion
In order to get a 800, 888, 877 or 866 number through AT&T, you must also have local phone service through AT&T as well. In addition to the cost of the phone line, there is a fee of $23 for the All In One package. The $23 fee is broken out into a service fee of $8/month, and a minimum usage fee of $15/month. (AT&T requires that you pre-pay for $15 of minutes, even if you don’t plan on using that many). Since AT&T charges 5.9¢/minute, then essentially 254 minutes are included with this plan ($15 divided by 5.9¢). Additional minutes are charged at the standard 5.9¢/minute.
888, 877 and 866 numbers are free and always available in AT&T’s number pool. Vanity and 800 numbers are also free, but assigned only if readily available. There are no virtual phone system features included with the All In One package. You might be able to obtain features like voicemail or an email fax function for an additional fee through your local service plan.
Although AT&T is significantly more expensive and restrictive than other 800 number providers, their service is extremely reliable and they have excellent customer service.
